SOUNDS LIKE: Moody, layered soundscapes.
Experimental music is often dismissed as a genre that can't be properly labeled or often refuses to follow any proper musical guidelines. DM Stith's Heavy Ghost is experimental in a sense, but it seems to have taken a risk that is worth taking.
Heavy Ghost encompasses the imaginative dreams of Stith's curious and introverted mind by creating a moody, multi-layered soundscapes. Acoustic guitars, piano, drums, various bits of musical sounds can be identified, but it's wrapped in Stith' moody voice, giving each song a folkloric element. A good example would be "Creekmouth", which sounds like a ritual drum dance with the aid of a choir, or "Pity Dance", which starts off as a lullaby of guitar and various instrumental bits before transforming into a eerie, eloquent, melodic composition of piano and string instruments.
For a debut album, Heavy Ghost is a superb, imaginative effort of ethereal sounds that will surely make the listener highly anxious to hear more from this new experimental artist.
