Kinnie Starr
(Violet Inch/Last Gang)
SOUNDS LIKE: A mixture of a little bit of everything.
Kinnie Starr's sultry voice carries you through her latest album, A Different Day. It is an extremely diverse record, touching on many different genres, from pop/rock to hip hop and everything else in between. She switches moods and vocal styles effortlessly to create a very unique sound.
Starr presents an interesting cover of "Another One Bites The Dust". Her more groove-orientated version manages to push boundaries whilst also being respectful to the original. "Open Wounds" evokes an almost Neko Case or Jenny Lewis vocal style in the lyrics "What else can we do but try and be true/ We try to leave some love behind in everything we do", whereas "High Heels" has an Imogen Heap feel.
"It's All You" is a definite love song: "Check out the light of you/ Check out the things you do", but the most beautiful song on the album would have to be "Some Sun" as Starr sings, "This is worth taking chances on/ This is worth coming home from being gone".
