CMW Day 3 – Friday March 12, 2010
This morning Cam woke up with a sore throat and heavy chest; seems as if the temperature changes are beginning to take hold. He decided to stay in bed for the better part of the day and Gabby went to meet up with Les, our producer, to work on the batch of songs for our next record. The rain has been constant, something we are not used to as it usually only rains for a few hours at a time back home. The boys did the necessary things that are not so awesome like washing, drying, shopping, etc. We went to the Fairmont for a few interviews and then the Australian mixer drinks. Tonight's show at the Rivoli boasts a pretty amazing line-up from an Aussie perspective. We headed down to the venue for a soundcheck and met the Children Collide boys. We found it funny that we both had to travel to the other side of the world to meet each other. They are a killer band with a great post-grunge ethos. Looking forward to seeing them again!
We went and got some dodgy Pho from Chinatown, which was both terrifying and satisfying. Then it was back to the Rivoli to see Sally Seltman. She is maybe one of the best songwriters our country has to offer and a beautiful person too! Her set was full of great tunes and excellent musicianship. Feist was there... no big deal... JUST ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE ARTISTS... just hanging out in the back room... as we said... no big deal. Kate Miller-Heidke was next up. We had toured Oz with Kate a few years back and it was great to catch up with her. She played an acoustic set and the room seemed to love it. Our set was hot and sweaty again and we played what was one of the most enjoyable and fun sets of our lives. The room was full of expats, new Canadian friends and good times. We stuck it out till 4am to watch Grand Atlantic, Fergus Brown & Paul Greene who were all kicking some serious ass. Looking forward to getting out tomorrow night and seeing some more local Canadian bands. Until then we are heading to bed.
