Forest City Lovers @ The Drake Underground

While it's true I wouldn't be writing this review if I was able to get into the Arts&Crafts showcase to see Dan Mangan and Timber Timbre, it doesn't mean I didn't desperately want to see Forest City Lovers as well.
Call it a blessing in disguise because Forest City Lovers gave me that extra dose of energy I needed to make it through day two. Although tempted to try once more to get into the A&C showcase, I opted to stay because I knew I'd enjoy this. And I was right. (Naturally.)
The big-sisterly presence of Kat Burns—teamed with her comforting vocals—is what makes Forest City Lovers one of the best Toronto bands to witness. Their soft, yet hard-hitting songs are a treasure, as are their songwriting and the pleasant looks they exchange on stage.
They were the warm hug the audience needed as they swayed along to tracks such as "Don't Go" and "Sullen Seas" from Haunting Moon Sinking as well as some material from the new album coming out later this year. Still, the standouts were clearly "Minneapolis" and the great "If I Were a Tree".
The only complaint I had is that the set was too short. I wanted more, damn it. But I guess that's what they call leaving them wanting more, so yes, Forest City Lovers. I want more.
