The Acorn @ Lee's Palace

"This is the smallest beard I've ever seen him with," I said to myself as Acorn frontman Rolf Klausener took the stage before I remembered his talent doesn't stem from his bristly chin. Still, the shockingly shrunken beard could not keep me from the musical erection I was about to witness.
With a new album set to be released this spring, The Acorn had plenty of new stuff to give us. While these new songs sound great, as I'm sure the album will, they didn't quite get the reactions "Low Gravity", "Flood Pt. 1" and "Crooked Legs" (all from their amazing Glory Hope Mountain) got from the crowd. Still, this Ottawa band knows how to entertain an audience and had fans new and old swaying along to their comfortable, endearing songs. The Acorn can always be counted on to give you that gentle, friend-like embrace with each passing track and a live presence that can only be described as blissfully tranquilizing.
On a sadder note, Klausener added this show marks one of the last for guitarist Howie Tsui whose guitar and xylophone abilities have been invaluable to The Acorn's live performances. Truly a shame, but at least young Howie got in one last amazing show for a lucky Toronto crowd.
