Let me tell you this one thing, the last night of CMW is always a struggle to get through. You're tired, cranky, kind of hung over and sick of drinking, but determined to make it through. This year was no exception—except this year I got the best reward possible: an evening with The Balconies.

To say this band is a beast on stage is a dramatic understatement. Their music reached out and bitch slapped the Horseshoe across their drunk faces, demanding attention. With confident leadership and tons of smiles, Jacquie Neville highlighted each song as she shared her friendly, colourful facial expressions and crazy hair shakes. Bassist Stephen Neville and drummer Liam Jaeger were her backbone as they hammered through tracks from their self-titled debut album with tenacity, vigour and utter craziness. This band is a well-oiled machine of perfect power pop and harmonies that needs to be witnessed... not to mention, they're really beautiful people.

Excuse me if I'm gushing, but I think I found a new favourite live band. It's so rare to witness a CMW show with so much energy, immediacy and power in such a short set. It's the first time in my several years of covering CMW that my beer didn't get any attention. THAT'S how unbelieveable this set was.

It really couldn't have been any more enjoyable if they asked me for a foursome.
