Bionic @ Petit Campus
By: Maria Giuliani
The website of this metal band hints that they are not just about making a lot of loud rock music. At 1:00 AM in the crowded Petit Campus, hearing a lot of loud rock music was difficult to avoid, but the site is right — this band has substance, and the audience would agree. There were more people packed into Campus then there were at my previous two Pop shows combined, a definite sign of Bionic's popularity. Not that this popularity isn't earned. Look at their tour schedule; this is one hard-working group of musicians.
Known for their intensity on stage, Bionic did not disappoint. There was a fair share of head banging, of course, but the overall energy level exuding from the stage was quite impressive. Everyone in the crowd was infected, to the more reserved people just nodding their heads, to the blind guy with the cane who really knew how to let loose.
One of the best things about this band was just how inviting they were. The way they talked up the crowd at the start of the night you would never have guessed them capable of such hard-rock beats and intense delivery. But as the song says, "F-R-double E-D-O-M includes freedom of expression," and this was both relevant to, and visible in, Bionic's performance. Bionic is not just about making noise? Yep, I can agree with that.
