Beirut Gives More Reasons to Watch Paper Heart
Impossibly adorable co-stars? Check. Plot that mixes fiction and reality? Check. Need more convincing to go see Paper Heart, the new Michael Cera movie? The flick, starring the pride of Brampton, Ontario and Charlyne Yi from Knocked Up, now boasts an original song from Beirut frontman Zach Condon. According to Pitchfork.com, "The 11th Arrondissement" is one of only two songs on the soundtrack that is not performed by one of the co-stars (the other is a contribution from Alden Penner, formerly of Unicorns and currently of Clues).
Madonna Moonlights as Reporter for Israeli Paper
The Daily Express is reporting that the Material Girl is taking up another profession: journalism. On Wednesday, an excerpt of a story titled "How My Life Changed" was published in Yediot Ahronot, with Madonna cited as the author. The article, translated from English to Hebrew, detailed her religious beliefs and spiritual coming-of-age. Although she is not Jewish, Madonna has been studying Kabbalah for the past several years, and took on the Hebrew name Esther. The full story will be published this Friday.
Apple Likes Albums Now
The next-wave gotta-have-it gizmo from Apple carries weighty expectations. The wee computer, described as a tablet-like laptop, is going to bring back the album. At least, that's what execs hope. Working with major record labels, Apple is developing software that is hoped to revive the LP, including applications such as liner notes and music videos (and songs, of course). Dubbed project "Cocktail," the software will be launched in tandem with the tablet this fall. Since the iPod is largely responsible for the end of the long-play album, it seems only fitting.
