Smashing Pumpkins Holding Auditions
Once again, Billy Corgan has to go looking for musicians to fill spots in his band (maybe he's difficult to work with...). Last year, an open audition was held to find The Smashing Pumpkins a new drummer, and Mike Byrne was the lucky selectee. So, now they're launching a similar campaign to find a new bassist and keyboardist. Interested candidates are invited to email their information / photos / videos to PumpkinsBass@gmail.com or PumpkinsKeys@gmail.com before March 31. Think you've got the chops?
Jarvis Cocker's Attempt to Save BBC 6 Music
A couple of weeks ago, we reported that budget cuts have led to the proposed death of digital music station BBC 6 Music, which focuses on alternative and indie artists. Musician, former Pulp frontman and 6 Music radio host Jarvis Cocker has emerged as a vocal supporter of the station in a bid to keep it on line. On Friday (March 5), word came down that the station will, in fact, be shut down in three months, and the station's personalities want their listeners to take that time to "register their disapproval". "It is time to man the barricades," says Cocker, who recognizes that their indie content won't find a home on another station. "No one else is going to offer me a show where I can play my own music with no adverts. I doubt anyone is going to come and poach me."
The Pipettes are Back
British indie girl-pop group The Pipettes are releasing their second album on June 28. Despite going through several line-up changes (they're now technically a duet), they have nearly completed their second album, Earth vs. the Pipettes, and have released their first single and video for the track "Our Love Was Saved by Spacemen".
