When talking about hip hop’s battlegrounds, no list is complete without 2pac and B.I.G.’s oral dispute. After Pac was shot in the studio lobby where B.I.G., Puff and other Bad Boy affiliates were working, he tossed around theories about being set up. The accused of course denied participation. “Hit ’Em Up” outlines how it all went down. Grab your glocks when you see 2pac Call the cops when you see 2pac Who shot me? But you punks didn’t finish Now you’re about the wrath of a menace N**** I hit ’em up Not only does this track slice B.I.G.’s jugular, it calls out his entire entourage from Lil’ Kim to Mobb Deep. Notorious’ response is debatable as “Who Shot Ya?” was recorded before the clashing of the coasts. Both sides could argue the media’s involvement as a perpetuating factor in this main dish – Pac and B.I.G. spoke about people feeding too much into what they didn’t understand. If a king were to be crowned in this mighty kingdom, I’d go with Pac; however, neither side won after we lost two iconic figures in the rap game.
