Quick & Dirty:
Raul Midon
- by Eva Blue -

Raul Midon is an obviously talented musician — master guitarist, soulful singer and vocal trumpeter. His musical range is wide; pop, latin, RnB, jazz and soul. It's just himself and his guitar which is more than enough. He's blind which doesn't allow him to move around a stage too much but it doesn't stop him from entertaining. He used to be a supporting musician, backing up the likes of Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin. Midon stepped forward and became a front man and having guests such as Stevie Wonder, Me'Shell Ngdecello and Jason Mraz contributing to his albums. Raul Midon is an artist to watch over the coming years.

Midon did a heavy tour last fall, took a short break and is now is on tour again promoting his new album "A World Within a World". Although, Midon has "gotten to travel the world and do exactly what [he] wants to do," he's still doing a lot of introspection, figuring out what success is to him and what's enough. All this introspection seems to be coming from the experience of extensive solo touring and having already made two albums.

The new album is not being received as well in North America as it is in Europe. Midon contemplates that perhaps this album is too commercial and if the balance between that and being artistic is not balanced enough. He says, "I'm very proud of the album, the broad scope of it. There's a lot going on. There's a journey I take people on". Despite what he says, he seems a little saddened that it's not being embraced as much as he would like. He hints that he wanted that one song that would catch on but he that he's not succeeding. Makes you look forward to his third album and the musical direction it's going to take. Surely, he's already working out his next album already.

Midon doesn't speak too much about his plans. It's as if things just are with him. He plays music. After speaking with him for a while, you realize he does have plans. He's already thinking about putting together his next album and he'll keep touring. You get the impression he's always doing that and that it's supposed to be obvious. Midon seems very uncomplicated yet content with himself. Hopefully, others find him to be a truthful because he is simply a true artist.
