Live: Cobra Starship
STUDIO JPR - JANUARY 22 - by Alicia Giammaria -

As Le Studio JPR's lights dimmed and the intermission music stopped, hundreds of two-handed cobra signs hovered over the crowd's heads. With purple American Apparel hoodies and Nike high top sneakers scattered throughout the room, it was a sea of devoted fans waiting to "shake what their mama gave them", as lead singer, Gabe Saporta, put it. The party started with "The City Is at War," and the cobra signs quickly changed to swaying hips.

Always striving to be the band that gets people dancing and having a good time, Cobra Starship gave it their all, heating up the crowd on a frigid winter night. Mission accomplished as all five members' contagious dance moves infested Le Studio. Their involvement with the fans was something they clearly didn't have to work very hard at.

When the first notes of the smash hit "Snakes On A Plane (Bring It)" began to play, a wave of kids swarmed to the front of the stage in anticipation of the moment the'd been waiting for all night. Who would be chosen to rap Travis McCoy's (Gym Class Heroes) part of the song? The band finally made a decision, pulled a fan up on stage, handed her the microphone and let her take it from there. Nailing the solo word for word, she quickly jumped back into the crowd and continued to tear up the dance floor.

After taking a short break, the band slowed the pace somewhat for their encore by doing a couple of acoustic songs. The audience, however, still roared and continued to fill the room with positive energy.

Closing with "Guilty Pleasure," confetti rained down on Le Studio, screams filled the room, and the cobra signs went back up, higher and higher into the air. With that, the band finished by saying, "Montreal, you guys are amazing!"
