When the beat junkies wanted their Woodstock, they got it in the form of the World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF). Inevitably, the screamo's and the emo's wanted their Woodstock too, especially since their square footage at last year's WEMF, the Cutting Edge stage, was bite-sized compared to the dance revelry that engulfed them. So give the punks their Woodstock.
That's just what Ryan Krueger and Jesse Brown did. Together, the duo is Cutting Edge, a Toronto-based indie-rock platoon charged with supplying Ontarians with the edgiest, er, finest in live rock. Brown and Krueger are no neophytes when it comes to festivals. They've been a part of the scene for 14 years; 2006's WEMF marked their last appearance as small fish in a big music pond.
Enter this year's Cutting Edge Music Festival the first
of its kind. The event, officially Ontario's largest outdoor
camping-rock-festival-weekend of the summer, is being held
on the August long weekend at The Grand Bend Motorplex in
Grand Bend, Ontario. Krueger and Brown have brought quite
the posse with them too, boasting the likes of Alexisonfire,
Moneen, Ill Scarlett, Protest the Hero, Social Code, Ten Second
Epic, Attack in Black, Hunter Valentine, The Outfit (pictured)
and assorted other noise makers all slotted for main-stage
mania.
The art of the Southern Ontario rock-festival has kissed the brink of extinction, most notably everyone's favourite, Edgefest, is simply a memory. Cutting Edge promises to change that with a smorgasbord of activities to entertain the rock-hungry masses. Fancy a swim in one of Ontario's cleanest beaches? Look no further. Campers can enjoy a one day, two day or VIP pass (VIP giving you all access to everything under the sun). Add to that a full 24-hour menu (with vegetarian options), massive on-site paid parking for cars and RVs and fleets of Bud Girls waiting with your ale.
But where will the beat junkies dance? In a dance tent, of course, where Torontonian house masters MSTRKRFT, Mark Oliver, Jelo and an accompanying slew of mixologists will rave the night away.
Everybody wins.
