The Joys, tied last year for Best Live Electric
Event Preview: The Toronto Independent Music Awards, 2007

THE PHOENIX CONCERT THEATRE – OCTOBER 4 - by Karolina Rous -

It's almost that time of the year again: The third annual Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMAs) is set to rock The Phoenix this Thursday, October 4, 2007. With Toronto's industry moguls, the hottest new indie acts and scores of jacked-up fans, it's sure to be one hell of a night. Who will take away the TIMAs award for Best International Act? Best Indie Rock? Best Pop? Urban? Rap? Country? Folk? Your guess is as good as mine. With such a slew of great acts being nominated, from Vanderpark to Devastator to A Certain Symmetry, it really is anybody's game!

Getting the spirit of TIMAs off to a running start well before the big night, Jeff Healey's Roadhouse has been hosting showcases every Wednesday night, starting way back in June. Giving fans a taste of what nominees have to offer, the showcases have built into the culmination that will be the awards night. Not that the music is gonna stop — the TIMAs will see 10-plus acts (with special guests to boot!) such as Tim Tibbitts, The Joys, Angie Nussey, The Polytones, Stutter and Amanda Martinez, among many others. This year's TIMAs are set to be even bigger and better than last year's event, with recognition for the artists and their importance to the music scene being placed at the forefront.

Given TIMAs' new categories, such as "Best Album Art" and "Young Writers," it's clear that the event is expanding in fresh, exciting ways, ensuring that we'll hear more about it this year than ever before! Media attention for the TIMAs is growing, and SoundProof will be out in full force with our Head Honchos Chris Stevenson and Scott Mckean presenting the award for Best Indie Rock. If you haven't gotten your ticket yet, what are you waiting for?
