Live:
The Russian Futurists
SNEAKY DEES
- MARCH 6
- by Karolina
Rous -
How can you not dig the pop-infused, sunshine-drenched super-fun
sound of Toronto's own The Russian Futurists? They are always
a great act to catch, and at Sneaky Dees they delivered yet
once again, proving they are one of Canada's finest indie
acts today. I can't get enough of their electro-synth, keyboard-heavy
sound that takes a playful spin on the sometimes all-too-full-of-itself
genre that is pop electronica. With the crowd already primed
and ready to dance its asses off thanks to openers The Cansecos,
The Russian Futurists stepped into a geared-up scene, which
they took full advantage of.

Hitting on all their classics, such as "Paul Simon," which
got the kids dancing, "Precious Metals," which lead singer
Matt Hart dedicated to "all the rappers in the house," and
a new treat, the track "Register My Firearms, No Way!" that
solicited some serious laughs out of the kids before it set
out to destroy the place. It was so great, you can tell their
new material is gonna be a hit. The Russian Futurists are
so catchy, it's like they have magnets in their pockets, they
pull at you so. Hands down one of the better acts of CMW 2008.
