Camouflage Nights

That's right, folks. Thrush Hermit vets Ian McGettigan and Tigre Benvie are back on the scene with new band Camouflage Nights. They began their set with whaling, electro-infused sounds that wavered between soundtrack to a horror flick and dreamy wonderland, making for great experimental soundscapes throughout the first song, "Skies Are Foggy."
All of their music is very uniquely composed, though it was difficult to tell due to the sound quality on stage. Now, I'm not saying that Sneaky Dee's is a bad venue; I understand that live audio mixing is tricky with a regular live band, and Camouflage Nights adds to their bass, drums and guitar with laptops, drum machines and beautiful, jazz-sounding female vocals. However, I truly feel that one could appreciate the band's versatility much, much more under better conditions.
Camouflage Night's set was short and sweet, with only seven songs played and a climax at the
number five track, "Five Five Minutes," which featured a kick-ass indie rock intro and bellowing female vocals overtop of heavy, distorted guitars. The following song began with the whole band clapping, a sound that was echoed electronically and got the crowd moving. Their final number, "Home Tonight," had the most unique sound that I can only try to describe by comparison and would call a mixture between Tortoise, Sonic Youth, a cuckoo clock and a circus theme song.
