Live:
Jane Vain and the Dark Matter
THE SILVER
DOLLAR - MARCH 6
- by Amanda

It is funny when you listen to a band's Myspace before seeing
them live, where you're expecting one thing, but you get something
totally different. Sometimes you are completely disappointed,
other times you get what I did with Jane Vain and The Dark
Matter. As I entered The Silver Dollar, I found the showcase
buzzing with people. The thing I like about the Dollar is
no matter where you stand, you always get a good vantage point
of the band. The show quickly took off with the band launching
into songs off their recently released album, "Love is Where
the Smoke is." Lead singer Jamie Fooks' vocals were both alluring
and calming, as she cooed over "Ships Bound to Sink," a track
of their new album. Her voice fit wonderfully into the music
surrounding her.
Listening to their stuff beforehand, I found that there were a lot more electro undertones to their music than there was in their live act. The show at The Dollar seemed to be more on the mellow side, almost with a folk feel to it. Having not seen a Jane Vain and the Dark Matter show before, I didn't quite know what to expect, but I have to admit I was totally stoked when I saw a banjo player! If there's one thing I can say about Jain Vain and co. is that they're genuine and have real character. A definite must see.
