CMW Live: Hot Little Rocket @ The Silver Dollar
THE SILVER DOLLAR - MARCH 6 - by Chris Brisbane -

Shuffled into an awkward and unorthodox stage arrangement at The Silver Dollar, Hot Little Rocket literally took centre stage — with one half of the audience to their left, with some in front, at the bar, and majority of the other half on their right. Despite this unusual set-up, the band weren't the least bit daunted in cranking out their righteous and swaggering brand of energetic power pop.

With striking similarities to Sonic Youth, Weezer and Green Day, Hot Little Rocket distinguish themselves with unyielding raw energy, zeal, and a lot of personality. It's power pop with a lot of muscle and grit, with an infusion of punk and terrific hooks, featuring an impressive rhythm section, not to mention an extremely charismatic, lovable and humorous frontman, and a very well rehearsed band.

Without a doubt, Hot Little Rocket performed a fine and entertaining set, taking the time to tease and poke fun at the audience — including members of the media. Hot Little Rocket also benefited from having quite a few fans in attendance, from a growing local following to supporters from back home. The highlights of their set included "Do The Hustled" and a cover of KISS's "Detroit Rock City," both of which had many patrons and even a few of the bartenders dancing. I'm glad I caught Hot Little Rocket, they played some good tunes and were great for a laugh as well.
