CMW: Bermuda Triangle

Not much is known about the icy, northern reaches of our planet. Vague and watery stories about perpetual night and strange summer rituals filter down to us here in the south, but we are still hesitant to attach the label "truth" to these mysterious Nordic folk tales. Though we cannot definitively prove any rumors from these snowy, upper lands we have, over the past few years, begun to fit together bits of historical knowledge surrounding this frozen piece of our planet. One such cultural tidbit is the fact that the people of these lands, in particular Norway, excel in the creation of catchy, melodic electro-rock 'n' roll; the kind that just makes you want to dance.

SoundProof recently had the great pleasure of obtaining an interview with an innovative band on the forefront of this northern cultural phenomenon: Bermuda Triangle from Oslo, Norway.

SoundProof: How long have you guys been together in your current configuration?

Bermuda Triangle: The two new vocalists, Sverre Olav Rodseth and Marita Sorli, joined Bermuda Triangle last year. We actually had auditions. Thomas Jacobsen and Anders Hunstad, drums and bass, started playing live with Bermuda Triangle back in 2003/2004. Jan-Tore Diesen is one of the founding members, and has been with Bermuda Triangle since 2001. Our current configuration did our first concerts early last summer.

SP: How would you describe your sound?

BT: We combine strong melodies with rock attitude, based on an electronically influenced landscape.

SP: What type of crowd reaction do you hope to achieve when performing?

BT: We hope the audience will be humming to our songs while not being able to stand still.

SP: Is there a difference between North American and European reactions to your music?

BT: No, not really. This might be because we mainly get to hear from the people who like our music. What we sometimes notice is the difference in how people listen to our lyrics. Audiences with English as their native language tend to take more interest in the lyrics to our music.

SP: You've performed at European music festivals, have you performed at any in North America?

BT: We have so far only performed at European music festivals: Roskilde festival, Popkomm, In the City, London Calling, by:Larm, ElektroStat, Athens Music festival, and more.

Look for Bermuda Triangle next at SoundProof's Canadian Music Week showcase, Friday March 9, 2007 @ Sneaky Dee's 9pm.
