Live: Woodhands
WRONGBAR – APRIL 3 - by Amanda Scriver -

For those of you who missed the Woodhands CD release show at Wrongbar, you can promptly give yourself a swift kick in the ass. For those in the know, this was THE show to be at. The night was packed with magicians, newly minted girl pop-punk act Machetes (who fucking rocked the house and got the crowd going) and of course, men of the hour Dan Werb and Paul Banwatt of Woodhands. The Toronto boys' new disc, "Heart Attack", in all its sweaty electro glory, brought every hipster, nerd, art-fag and music lover out of hiding to show their love and appreciation. Despite a late start due to technical troubles on stage, it seemed that nobody mindedonce Werb raged into his keytar, yelling into his mic "Who wished Paul had more in his kick drum?!" commanding the sound guy to up the mics as the crowd chanted for MORE SOUND. Paul finally got his kick drum and we were off to the races. Each song was sung with passion, and although a lot of new songs were being performed, tons of people in the crowd were singing along. The cheers got louder and louder after each song, especially after "Under Attack," which lasted longer than expected. Paul even busted into a freestyle, upping his street cred' that much more. Capturing the essence of a Woodhands' show into a review is difficult. All the sweat, intensity, and glory that Werb, Banwatt and the fans put into these shows can't be captured in words. For starters, these fans are passionate. Woodhands have a devoted Toronto following, and it's well-deserved. Not every band give themselves 'heart attacks' just by putting on their shows, with their high energy and crowd interaction. A Woodhands' show is not like any other rock show — it's an experience in and of itself.
