Live: Diplo
WRONGBAR – APRIL 19 - by Amanda Scriver -

Let me start off by asking: Does this man ever disappoint? Seriously? Wrongbar was brought down to its knees over and over again. Diplo's appearance was one of the most hyped in the city, with tickets selling out in a few days. This guy has a strong following for good reason, and with big things on the horizon for his budding Mad Decent label, Diplo’s been touring everywhere, sometimes with label mates Rye Rye and DJ Sega who were just recently in Toronto without him.

The rowdy crowd was already pumped up as Wrongbar owner Nasty Nav wound down his set. Girls jumped up onto the stage as Diplo hopped on the mic and asked, "Wassup Toronto?" The crowd’s cheer, clearly not as hyped as he would have liked, got called out by the man and since Toronto is never one to back down from a challenge, the sweat, booze and booty shaking clearly got more intense. I don't think I've ever left a show covered in so much beer and sweat — and liked it!

Diplo's set had some super high energy, kickin' it off with some Baltimore bass classics like Sinden's "Beeper" and following up with some hip hop crowd pleasers like "Crank That" by Souljah Boy and Bone Crusher's "Never Scared". The crowd was singing along and dancing up a storm, proving that white boys and girls CAN get down!

But even a killer set can have its imperfections. Midway through, technical difficulties arose and the music just flat cut out. I give him props for handling it like a pro, getting on the mic and talking to the crowd while working out his tech problems. Then he threw down some bangers, like Kid Sister's "Pro Nails," and hyped the crowd even more than before. After a set that lasted nearly three hours, possibly longer, what can I say? He's a warrior on the decks and a hell of a performer.
